Spain has traditionally been one of the countries with the most blue flags on its beaches, and it strives to maintain high standards in the quality of its beaches and coastal waters.

Every year, the Foundation for Environmental Education awards blue flags to beaches and ports that meet certain environmental, safety, service and accessibility criteria. Many countries, including Spain, make a great effort to obtain this prestigious recognition.

Spain is the country with the most Blue Flags in the world, with 627 beaches, 97 in marinas and 5 in tourist boats.

TOTAL BLUE FLAGS IN SPAIN (TABLE 3)

Spain has raised the blue flag beaches to 627, six more than in 2022. A figure that allows the country to continue leading the podium of this international initiative that recognizes the excellence of the waters, safety and beach services.

This was announced this Thursday by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), promoter of the badge in Spain that is present in 47 nations and of which our country has the largest numbers since 1994, followed by Greece and Turkey.

Catalonia, for its part, has obtained a total of 120 blue flags that accredit the quality of its beaches, three more than last year, despite the coastal regression and drought, and ranks as the fourth CCAA, after the Valencian Community, Andalusia and Galicia, with more blue flags this year.
